I know from firsthand experience
that diet and lifestyle can change everything. In 2005, I was diagnosed with
thyroid cancer. When I received the news, I was scared and began to look at my
options. I underwent the recommended medical treatment including thyroid
surgery, body scans, and medication. After going through all of the options
provided by my doctor, I still dealt with symptoms including fatigue and mood
swings.
At this point, I knew that I was
going to be my best advocate. Good
nutrition had become more than a fleeting interest; it was now more of a
necessity. I began to research a more natural approach to deal with my thyroid
issues. I found more foods that would supplement my energy and sustain me
throughout the day. I found great ways to deal with stress including yoga and
breathing techniques.
I am truly amazed at the impact
that good healthy food has had on my life. I feel blessed to be in a position
to help other people regain a sense of balance with their health and
well-being.
I received my training and certification to practice Health Counseling at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories—combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree
in Occupational Therapy from Boston University’s Sargent College of Health and
Rehabilitation Sciences. For over seven years, I have been working in home
and school settings supporting children with special needs in their development
of sensory processing, self-care and academic skills.
In 2009, I began writing a online column for New Jersey Health and Beauty Magazine located here:
